Welcome! |
We hope you'll enjoy
12StepMe.org! Please read the following information
before entering the chat room for the first time, so there are no
surprises for you..

|
Brand New to AA? |
Please understand
that Alcoholics Anonymous is not affiliated with any others, and
neither are we. We cannot sign your court
slips; we cannot validate your medications; we cannot tell you how
to get sober. We can only tell you what we—and millions before
us—have done to get sober and become happy, joyous, and free.
|
|
Primary
Purpose |
Our primary
purpose to provide an area for those who wish to assist others in
doing the 12 steps as outlined in the Big Book of Alcoholics
Anonymous, those who wish to learn how to sponsor others, and to
demonstrate how God-dependence and service to others is the path to
a happy, joyous, and free life.
|
|
Sponsor |
The purpose of a sponsor is to
take your hand and put it into the hands of God by sharing the
spiritual principles of Alcoholics anonymous. A sponsor is
someone who has—with their own sponsor—done the 12 steps as
outlined in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and is ready and willing
to assist others in going through their 12 steps. We encourage
you to get a sponsor locally; however, we hope you'll use our
site and events to supplement and strengthen your spiritual
journey.
You can get a sponsor
at any time by simply asking one of the facilitators to assign you
one, or by asking someone in the chat room. It is often best to get a
sponsor by having someone else choose one for you.

|
Our
Software |
We have capabilities
that other online chat rooms may not provide, such as copy and paste.
If you don't want your writing to be copied and pasted, then don't say it.
If you think that what you have to share is too personal for someone
to potentially copy, then it is probably too personal to share in
the meeting room.

|
Our
Chat Rules |
-
Anyone treating
others with disrespect will be booted—kicked
out of the chat room. If you are booted,
you will immediately receive an email telling you precisely why. You
will be permitted back into the room within 24 hours. If you are
booted more than 3 times in one month, you will be banned
indefinitely.
Disrespect is defined as verbal attacks on someone
(not
so-called attacks on how they work their program). Remember,
however, that our focus is on the newcomer. You may be asked to
take any arguments "outside" the chat room. We may
offer to provide a separate room where anyone may attend a
separate discussion, which should not be attended by newcomers. We may
advise you to attend the next business meeting, and present the
topic there.
-
Private chats are
seen only by the persons that you see in attendance. No
facilitators or members are given the capability to be
invisible in your private chat or private rooms.
-
You may copy and
paste what has been said, but please keep it within the
boundaries of Alcoholics Anonymous anonymity statement:
Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions.
Please respect this and treat in confidence who you see and what
you hear.
-
Foul language is
permitted, within reason. If you find it offensive, please don't
enter our chat room. If it is not kept within reason, we'll be
forced to start censoring it out. Please don't make us do that.

Our
Meeting Rules |
As yet, we are not a
group that is connected with AA General Service Office because
online groups don't fall under their structure. However, our group
does everything possible to adhere to the spirit of an AA group as
defined by the General Service Office and the
12 Concepts of
Service. You may find our
meetings slightly different than other meetings. We do have meeting
rules that assist us in fulfilling our group's primary purpose. They are:
|
-
No one may share
unless they have begun the 12 steps with a sponsor. Please don't
come here to whine about your life. We are all about change.
-
Speakers must
have completed the 12 steps and begun sponsoring others.
-
Chairpersons must
have completed the 12 steps and sponsored many others. It is the
chairperson's job to ensure that a message of hope is available
here.
-
No chatting
during the meeting.

Our
Group |
Our group's birthday is September
4, 2010.
Our group is like most
AA groups: We hold business meetings, and obtain group
conscience for any issues, and use the Concepts of Service to the
extent we are able. Issues that may affect the site owner's personal
liability or the liability of any group member are understandably
not handled at the group level.
Any member of Alcoholics Anonymous may join our group. To have
voting rights, you must be a regularly attending member for at least
30 days.
Any member who would like to chair
or perform other service work may contact
admin@12stepme.org.

Site Ownership |
This site is currently owned by a member of Alcoholics Anonymous who
is able to provide webmastering and hosting, and does so in the
spirit of the 7th Tradition.
